Beyond the Dancefloor: the Wider Impact of Club Culture on Berlin - a Data-Driven Analysis
As the home of a diverse and extremely lively club culture, Berlin has a pioneering role to play in understanding the influence of club culture on a wider cultural, social and economic basis. This session explores the results of a comprehensive study undertaken by Berlin's Club Commission in cooperation with academic partners and will create a clearer, fuller evaluation of the importance of club culture for Berlin - in terms of both economic and cultural impact. The findings of this study will help strengthen Berlin as a location for clubs in the long term and create symbiotic benefits for other business sectors, as well as art, culture, and city society itself.

Connecting the Tools - How the Platforms You Already Use Will Share Their Data Better
Imagine a future where simply exchanging data across the European music industry is possible. The European music ecosystem is highly fragmented, diverse and complex, with lots of SME businesses. This fragmentation is not only on the creative side: different countries and different work areas - labels, distributors, publishers, promoters, venues etc. - all use highly specialised tools. It means that cross-sector, cross-border data sharing and analysis can be difficult and slow - and there’s a demand for an easy, immediate data flow, which would result in immediate gains in efficiency and understanding of the market.

This is a fascinating session for anyone who uses tools for CRM, accounting, repertoire- , file- or rights-management, sales and distribution, royalty processing, or promotion and impact analysis in the music industry. This talk will explain the "Connecting the Tools” project, which aims to improve the connection between the IT systems and services in your daily work processes - building a decentralised and flexible pool of specialised music business applications.

Hybrid Music Lab is a project organized by the Berlin Music Commission - the Berlin music industry’s main network and carried out on behalf of the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises as part of the Berlin state initiative "Projekt Zukunft" and funded by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund).

Metadata & Money-flow Workshop - Make Sure You're Paid For Your Music!
There's so much to do as a musician: and every step takes so much work that it's often easy to miss some big stuff - like making sure you get paid! Yet many successful rights holders are not getting paid what they're due, and the reasons are often linked to the metadata that accompanies a recording. This workshop is for anyone who should make money from recordings, and you don't need to know how music rights work to take part: indie artists, managers, labels, publishers and rights administrators will all benefit.

Simon’s experience is in managing and claiming author rights, and Thomas’ experience is in master rights and music recognition technologies. Together, they'll give a complete overview of the subject, in an interactive, entertaining session which shows how metadata and royalties both “travel” throughout the music value chain, from the starting point of a new song being written, live in the session. You'll take away insights on best industry practices to ensure a correct royalties flow, all the ways rights are used, and will be able to ask any questions you have.

The Power of Independence – the Importance of Balanced Power Distribution in the Music Industry
There's only one Google, one Facebook and one Amazon. So is the same thing happening in the music industry - are the big players, like Live Nation, gradually taking over? Does this neo-liberalist approach (as described by Berthold Seliger) create less room for independent venues and festivals to survive? We'll talk to independent venues and festivals on the importance of keeping it unique, independent and local - and how that contributes to the live market. This session will also touch upon questions like; what will happen to the smaller festivals? How can you make it without having the power of the big players? Why is it important to be independent - and what is the potential and power of that approach? And how do we ensure a healthy distribution of influence in the face of such enormous power?

Keep Creative, Stay Independent - and Make Money: Turning a Fanbase Into a Membership
In order to make money as a creator, you have to be an entrepreneur and be aware of what tools are available to you to make it happen. One of the best ways to make money consistently as a creator is through membership. Membership allows creators to turn a community of their most passionate fans into paying subscribers in exchange for additional access, exclusivity, and engaging experiences; and it provides the creator with a consistent revenue stream and creative independence.

In this keynote talk, Wyatt Jenkins, SVP of Product at Patreon will share stories of musicians and creators who have successfully monetized their fanbase, allowing them to maintain creative independence.

Muse, Not Musician - AI's Role in the Future of Music Creativity
Mark d’Inverno, Professor of Computer Science at Goldsmiths, University of London will argue that designing Music AI systems to be "autonomously creative" is not the right approach, and instead, we should be thinking of AI as something that supports, enhances and stimulates human creativity. Mark, who is also a jazz pianist, draws on history, psychology, education and philosophy to understand what we mean when we talk about creativity - and explores how our understanding of  "creativity" has profound ramifications on how we envisage AI's role in society - and in music. He'll also use new AI music systems to demonstrate how the creative experience of human musicians and audiences should be the starting point when designing Music AI.

Hemispheres Immersive Audio-Video Installation
The installation will be shown inside the "Nineties Berlin" exhibition both days before 8pm every 20mins and from 8pm to 11pm the whole time in a loop - the opening takes place Nov6 at 8pm.

Most Wanted guests can visit the installation including the permanent exhibition for just 4€ instead of 10€.

You can reach the exhibition leaving the main entrance of Most Wanted by taking a left across the courtyard and find the entrance of "Nineties Berlin" to your right. find the exact position on Google Maps here.

Thirty speakers on different elevation levels, driven by an Iosono wave-field synthesis audiosystem by ENCIRCLED audio.solutions, deliver Lukas Taido’s music and soundscapes, situated somewhere between digital Musique Concrète and contemporary Electronica, and melting tightly linked with Lars Ullrich’s abstract, multilayered visual worlds, on a 150-foot, curved screen – creating a highly immersive and intense audiovisual experience.
Surrounded by projections and speakers, visitors experience the rhythmic, tonal, visual and structural interaction within the duality and co-existence of the two Hemispheres from an inner perspective. The close coupling of extremely spatial auditory and visual impact, triggers associations from mathematical-geometrical shapes, via the terrestrial globe to feeling like being inside a human brain – while it is releasing a large amount of neurotransmitters.

Making The Piano Fly - A New Perspective on Interactive Piano Performance
The Grand Piano is a timeless instrument: a favourite playground of the most diverse musical spheres for more than 300 years, and an arena of highly specialised expertise. But today, laptop artists and DJs - with the endless possibilities for sound generation their technology allows - invent the sonic frameworks of our time. So is the piano now an anachronism? Absolutely not, says Prof. Ralf Schmid, who reveals the reinvention of the piano in the digital age, and explains how to organically unite instrumental virtuosity and electronic music performance through flow and motion.

Let's Play... Music! Is Music About to Have its Live Streaming Moment?
In 2018, 77% of German internet users aged 14+ watched films, TV shows or other videos as streams online. In the gaming industry, Twitch has become a powerhouse: more than 500,000 gamers broadcast streams each day to a vast audience of millions. Twitch has recently encouraged its users to branch out: in  May, Twitch Sings - a karaoke platform for “endlessly watchable livestreaming vocal performance” - was launched. It's the platform's first foray into music-oriented content - but it won't be the last. So what changes could Twitch Sings, and platforms like it, bring to the music industry?

Jannik will talk about the potential of live streaming platforms, reasons for the success of the livestreaming paradigm and the power of Twitch in elevating music content in a connected, multi-user environment.

Publishing 2020 - Influencing the live performance publishing space
Publishing royalties generated from worldwide live performance can be a hugely valuable source of income for composers. However, accessing those royalties is not always straightforward, due to the challenges in monitoring and reporting on what has actually been played. To make things better, the processes that some collection societies use to license venues need to be updated. The good news is that changes are already underway: and in this session, you’ll meet the people working to help creators receive what they're due.
